New Year’s Eve Ideas for Kids

December 31, 2019

New Year's Eve is just around the corner. If you're planning on staying in with your kids this year, we've got plenty of family-friendly activities to keep you busy until midnight (or bedtime)!

1. Play dress up

Have your kids dress up in their fanciest attire. Add feather boas, silly hats, and more to add to the fun. Create your own photo backdrop and snap photos of the kids to make them feel like they are on their very own red carpet.

2. Get crafty and make your own party supplies

Check out our Pinterest board for some inspiration.

3. Create a family scrapbook

Collect and print out photos from the past year then organize them together in a book. You'll have so much fun reliving the memories!

4. Set up a balloon drop

Tip: YouTube has plenty of step-by-step video instructions on how to do this.

5. Have a dance party

Make a fun music playlist together then hand out glow sticks, turn down the lights, and boogie down!

6. Make a time capsule

Get a large box and decorate it (don't forget to include the date). Have everyone in your family write a letter to their future self and pick a few items to place inside the box. Bury or hide the box somewhere and pick a date when you'll open it back up again.

7. Host a sleepover party

If you're in the mood to host, have your child invite some of their friends over and throw a sleepover pajama party. Pick up some favorite snacks and play games.

8. Throw a "mocktail" party

Make a bunch of appetizers and serve fun kid-friendly beverages like sparkling apple cider in fancy cups.

9. Set goals for the new year

Encourage your child to set goals for the upcoming year. Use our 2020 goal-setting worksheets to plan and track their progress.

9. Have a movie marathon

Pop some popcorn, get comfy, and enjoy watching your favorite movies together.

10. Read a book

New Year's Eve is an exciting night. Calm things down by snuggling up and reading together before bed.
